Run Software Group announces the availability of RiverRun MobileCenter
software for powerful easy-to-use mobile systems management Greenwich, CT 04 August, 1999. River Run Software Group , Inc., the leader in remote access technologies, announced today the availability of River Run MobileCenter software. This product provides powerful, easy-to-use mobile systems management for deployments on Windows CE and Windows 9X- based devices. Administrators can now distribute, install and configure software and ROM upgrades on thousands of mobile devices in remote locations through a standard Web browser. River Run MobileCenter has been designed for large deployments to widely dispersed users with handheld devices and laptops. With River Run MobileCenter, systems administrators have a tool with which they can remotely and automatically update software and applications on mobile devices. This leads to significant cost savings and increase in productivity – devices no longer need to be recalled, and device users have the same valuable and up-to-date information on their mobile systems as their desktop colleagues do. "We’ve partnered with River Run Software Group on a number of projects, and our customers have been pleased with the results," said Matt Gerber, vice president of marketing at Itronix. "River Run MobileCenter is impressive, and we’ve licensed it for installation at our location. It will aid us in providing our own customers with the latest in operating system and applications on our devices." The River Run MobileCenter components include the Server, the Administrator and the Client. The Administrator software allows the network or system administrator to configure River Run MobileCenter and monitor users from any workstation on the LAN or a remote location through a Java-enabled web browser. The Client software runs on the mobile device. Whenever the user connects to the enterprise LAN, the Server downloads any new software and configuration details, installs the new software and notifies the user. River Run MobileCenter comes with the same levels of security provided by River Run in its other award-winning enterprise access products. Passwords and data are always encrypted with a DES-variant encryption, optimized for mobile devices before being transmitted. All remote devices communicate with the River Run MobileCenter Server over a TCP port, whose value is controlled by the administrator. The River Run MobileCenter Server runs as a Windows NT service, and only the individual with Administrative Privileges can use it, thus providing a safe, tamper-proof environment. "River Run MobileCenter provides systems administrators of mobile application deployments an unparalleled ability to manage their application remotely, and will greatly increase the effectiveness and efficiency of these deployments," said Dr. Trilok Manocha, president of River Run Software Group. "River Run MobileCenter is a computing solution independent of applications and devices, developed specifically to satisfy the unique field computing requirements of the utility, home and business services, telecom and insurance industries."
